Forza Horizon 6 takes a fresh approach to story mode, putting you in the shoes of a regular tourist arriving in Japan instead of a pre-made superstar. The game focuses on building your reputation, exploring the country, and gradually earning your place in the Horizon Festival.

1. The Journey: From Tourist to Festival Competitor

You start as a newcomer, dropped into Japan with no fame or special cars. Your first goal is simple: earn your way into the Horizon Festival. This involves completing qualifying races, PR stunts, and proving yourself on the streets of Tokyo and the scenic mountain roads. Unlike past games, the story begins grounded—you're a rookie driver experiencing everything for the first time.

2. Progression System: Wristbands

Forza Horizon 6 brings back the wristband system, now with seven levels ranging from yellow to gold. Each wristband represents your festival status and unlocks new cars, events, and locations. Progressing requires more than just speed—you'll need to take part in challenges, build PR points, and master both city streets and mountain passes. This system makes progression feel meaningful and rewarding.

3. Characters: Your Guides in Japan

The campaign is supported by a small but memorable cast:

  • Jordy – A motorsports enthusiast who helps you navigate the racing world.
  • Mei – A local JDM car builder and tuner, giving insight into Japan's car culture.

These characters aren't just NPCs; they guide you through story missions, teach you tuning techniques, and provide motivation as you rise through the festival ranks.

4. Locations & Events: Racing Across Japan

The map is vertical and diverse, offering urban streets, industrial docks, mountain passes, and serene countryside. Key areas include:

  • Tokyo City Docks – A mix of tight corners and open roads for street-style racing, perfect for earning FH6 Credits through high-stakes races.
  • Japan Alps – Technical mountain passes perfect for drift challenges.
  • Legend Island – Unlocked at the endgame, featuring the massive Colossus race looping the entire map.

Events mix traditional showcases with new experiences:

  • Chaser Zero Showcase – High-speed obstacle runs.
  • Horizon Rush – Precision-focused time trials.

5. The Campaign Path: Festival Progression

Your festival journey is structured but flexible:

  • Horizon Qualifiers & Invitational – Early races that determine your festival entry.
  • Wristbands – Earned by completing races and PR stunts. Each color unlocks new tiers of events and cars.
  • Legend Island Access – Achieved by earning all wristbands, allowing the ultimate challenge with the Colossus race.

6. Discover Japan: Free-Form Exploration

Beyond races, FH6 encourages exploration inspired by Japanese culture:

  • Collection Journal – Take photos of landmarks, murals, and hidden spots to collect digital "stamps."
  • Fog of War – The map starts hidden and reveals itself only as you drive through new regions.
  • Rewards – Completing the journal unlocks houses, barn find rumors, and The Estate, where you can build a fully customized garage.

This dual-path system—structured festival progression and open-ended discovery—makes FH6's story mode feel alive and personal.
